Airbus EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style Helicopter Makes U.S. Debut
Since introducing its special-edition Airbus EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style twin-engine turbine helicopter in 2010, Airbus has delivered only five of them around the world. This month, the helicopter made its first U.S. appearance, at Heli-Expo in California. The helicopter’s luxury interior, created by the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Division in Como, Italy, incorporates fine leather and wood details, an advanced in-flight entertainment system, subtle ambient lighting, and a choice of modular storage cabinets. The seats are mounted on tracks and can be easily reconfigured for up to six passengers to accommodate a range of travel needs from family vacations to executive transport. Two rear clamshell doors make for easy loading and egress.
The exterior of the EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style also reflects the design team’s efforts, with a distinctive front end, custom shrouding for the energy-absorbing skid-type landing gear, and an impressive paint scheme. Airbus also has invested in leading-edge technology for the cockpit design, with an advanced autopilot system and avionics that help ensure the flight crew stays safely focused on the full operating environment. Prices for the helicopter start at about $8.5 million.
